Valentine’s Day
It is February. Most people do not like February. The sky is always cloudy. It snows a lot. The wind blows coldly. For many people, the only good thing about February is Valentine's Day. It is a day for lovers, but it is also a day for good friends. Julie is sitting in her classroom.
She is 8 years old and is in the third grade. She is a new student at the school. Her family moved in January. Today is February 14th. The students are giving their friends valentine
gifts. The teacher, Mrs. Brooks, gets a valentine from each student. Julie gives valentine gift to many boys and girls in the class. She gives a valentine gift to Mrs. Brooks.
The day is almost over. Julie is very sad. She doesn't have any valentine gifts! Nobody gave her one. Julie starts to cry. She thinks that her class friends do not like her.
"Well," Mrs. Brooks says. "It was a good Valentine's Day. Everyone got many valentine gifts. Are you happy, Jeffrey Davis?"
"Yes, Mrs. Brooks. I am very happy. I got 24 valentine gifts."
"Great, Jeffrey. And you! Marcia Olsen. Are you happy?"
"Yes, I am very happy. I have many friends. I got 20 valentine gifts."
"That is very good, Marcia."
Mrs. Brooks looks at Julie. "What is the problem, Julie? Why are you crying?"
"I am very sad. I have no valentine gifts. I have no friends."
"Oh, my gosh! I forgot!" Mrs. Brooks says.
She walks to the hallway and returns with a big box. She gives it to Julie. Julie opens it. There
is a big white cake with red sparkles inside! On top of the cake it says "To Julie. Everyone's Favorite New Classmate."

A young woman was taking an afternoon nap. After she woke up, she told her husband, "I just dreamed that you gave me a pearl necklace for Valentine's day. What do you think it means?"
"You'll know tonight." he said.
That evening, the man came home with a small package and gave it to his wife. Delighted, she opened it--only to find a book entitled "The meaning of dreams.”
A guy walks into a post office one day to see a middle-aged, balding man standing at the counter methodically placing "Love" stamps on bright pink envelopes with hearts all over them. He then takes out a perfume bottle and starts spraying scent all over them.
His curiosity getting the better of him, he goes up to the balding man and asks him what he is doing. The man says, "I'm sending out one thousand Valentine cards signed, 'Guess who?'"
"But why?" asks the man.
"I'm a divorce lawyer," the man replies. |

In history, the Ottoman Empire was one of the powerful empires in the world. Its power takes its life over 700 years. The leader of the O.E. was the Sultan, who were very important makers of history. For example Kanun-i Sultan Süleyman , Fatih Sultan Mehmet , 2. Mahmud , 2. Abdulhamit and many more. After the O.E. accepted belief in Islam , the Sultans become also caliphs and then they dominated the Islam governments. The first Sultan who got the name caliphs was Yavuz Sultan Selim.
Fatih Sultan Mehmet, one of the sultan of O.E. , in spite of becoming sultan very young, was very successful. He was 12 years old who became sultan . His ambitions and belief gave him a lot of power. With this power he was going to conquered İstanbul. The Byzantine Empire was also very powerful empire at that times. For that reason they never thought that someone can conquered İstanbul. They trusted their army and power but something they crossed over was that Fatih was very clever and he had very strong ambitions.
Istanbul was qonuered in 1453 by Fatih Sultan Mehmet , who were 19 years old at that time, with a crazy idea. He couldn’t get in by the sea way so he decided to take the ships over the land by using big tolling trees in to the Golden Horn. This idea was never thought before by anyone else. Conquest of İstanbul was an important event for history. This event closed the Middle Ages and opened the historical period from the fall of Constantinople.
