Students can complete their education in 6 to 9 weeks with programs scheduled for weekdays or weekends.

Students who cannot attend weekday programs can join weekend courses. While these programs are less intensive than weekday ones, they are still highly effective. Weekend students are encouraged to participate in weekday activities whenever possible. For pedagogical efficiency, Karşıyaka English Time does not offer programs with less than 8 hours per week. Additionally, private lessons are available for students unable to attend group courses. After determining the student's exam readiness through a placement test, a minimum of 30 hours of private lessons is provided to complete the exam preparation training.

1.11.2 General Training IELTS:

This type of exam is designed for individuals who want to demonstrate their English proficiency for general work or immigration purposes.

Additionally, there are two other specialized IELTS test types based on specific needs:

  • This is a required IELTS test for visa applications in the UK. It is identical to the Academic IELTS but complies with visa requirements set by the UK Home Office.

Differences Between Computer-Based and Paper-Based IELTS Exams

  1. Listening, Reading, and Writing sections are conducted on a computer for the computer-based test, while in the paper-based test, all sections are completed manually on paper. The Speaking section is conducted face-to-face for both formats.
  2. In the computer-based test, the listening section allows automatic navigation and playback options, enabling students to switch between questions. In the paper-based test, students listen to the recording from start to finish.
  3. In the writing section, computer-based test-takers use a keyboard, while paper-based test-takers write by hand.

Structure of the IELTS Exam

The IELTS exam measures skills in Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Each skill is assessed using different question types. For example:

  • In the Reading section, students may encounter multiple-choice questions, matching exercises, and true/false statements.
  • The Writing section may require tasks like graph analysis, essay writing, or letter writing.
  • The Speaking section involves discussing personal experiences, debates, and presentations.
  • The Listening section evaluates comprehension of conversations, interviews, and lectures.

IELTS Listening Section

The IELTS Listening test is designed to evaluate listening comprehension skills. The test duration is approximately 30 minutes, divided into four parts with different topics and materials. Here's the general structure:

  1. Part 1:
  2. This section includes a conversation or dialogue related to daily social situations, such as making a restaurant reservation or gathering information at a tourist office. Multiple-choice questions are often included.
  3. Part 2:
  4. This section involves listening to a monologue on topics such as education, tourism, history, or nature. Students must understand details and overall meaning. Fill-in-the-blank or true/false questions may appear.
  5. Part 3:
  6. This section includes a discussion or dialogue involving multiple people, often reflecting an academic setting like a lecture or group project. Students must understand the speakers' ideas and objectives. Fill-in-the-blank and multiple-choice questions are common.
  7. Part 4:
  8. This section involves listening to a monologue on an academic topic, such as a scientific study or university lecture. Students are expected to identify details, main ideas, and inferences. Fill-in-the-blank or true/false questions are typical.

After each section, students are given time to review or write their answers. At the end of the test, they must transfer their responses to an answer sheet. Materials are based on real-life recordings or professionally prepared dialogues.

IELTS Writing Section

The IELTS Writing test evaluates writing skills and differs in format for General Training and Academic IELTS.

IELTS General Training Writing:

  1. Task 1:
  2. Students are asked to write a letter. This could be addressed to a friend, employer, or authority figure, expressing a specific purpose or explaining a situation.

IELTS Reading Section

The IELTS Reading test measures comprehension and includes different tasks for General Training and Academic IELTS.

  1. Task 1:
  2. Students read short texts, advertisements, or brochures similar to real-life materials. They must find details, understand general meaning, and answer questions based on the material.
  3. Task 2:
  4. Students read an article or text passage. This requires identifying key ideas, understanding the author's purpose, and answering related questions, such as multiple-choice or true/false.
  5. Task 3:
  6. Students analyze an academic text from university-level textbooks or research articles. They answer questions related to the text’s details, main ideas, and arguments.
  • Time Management:
  • Each task is allocated approximately 20 minutes. Effective time management, recognizing keywords, and employing comprehension strategies are essential for success.

IELTS Speaking Section

The IELTS Speaking test assesses English-speaking skills through a face-to-face interview with an examiner. The test consists of three parts:

  1. Part 1: Introduction
  2. The examiner asks personal questions about topics like hobbies, interests, and daily life. This evaluates the student’s ability to express themselves spontaneously.
  3. Part 2: Individual Speech
  4. The student is given a specific topic to discuss within a set time. They must organize their thoughts, express ideas, and support their points.
  5. Part 3: Discussion
  6. The student discusses a topic or scenario with the examiner, answering questions, explaining their ideas, and participating in a debate. This evaluates fluency, argumentation, and conversational skills.

Duration:

  • The speaking test lasts approximately 11-14 minutes. It is conducted in a natural and conversational manner. Success in this section requires fluency, clear communication, and effective argumentation. Regular practice and familiarity with various topics are helpful for preparation.
